Built by the owners with the intent of
establishing a bed and breakfast, this two-story home gives guests free-reign from the
front door to the pool. Stairs at the entry lead immediately upstairs to a 784 SF master
bedroom suite, with total privacy for the innkeepers and impressive views of five islands.
The house draws on Balinese influences, evident by the hand-carved front doors and the
bamboo flooring throughout. Antique pieces are featured in niches and recesses. A
Hawaiian-style hike'e manufactured in Bali lies tucked into its own nook.
Each of the down-stairs bedrooms and baths creates a different ambiance through careful
selection and use of mixed materials. One bathroom features a washed concrete floor with
exposed aggregate, natural lava rock-lined shower, and a custom poured-in-place concrete
tub accented with a custom circular shower curtain rod. Another bathroom creates interest
with an antique hand carved mirror and utilizes 12" travertine tiles for the floor
and shower walls. Every bathroom has a skylight. The look of every bedroom varies with use
of solid wood cabinets, wood louvers, sisal floor mats, and antique beds. Outside, the use
of bamboo fencing, thatched lights, and solid teak furniture the Bali look within a lush
tropical Hawaiian garden.
